Sumifru (Philippines) Corporation
engages in the sourcing, production, shipment and marketing of various fresh fruits, primarily the export of quality Cavendish bananas, Pineapple and Papaya. It has a totally integrated system of production with a research center, a cold chain, packaging plants, loading port and shipping facilities. Our main base of operations is in Mindanao, ideal for farming because of its suitable climate, rich soils and abundant water sources.
As an exporter of quality fresh fruits, Sumifru has markets in China, Japan, Korea, Middle East, New Zealand and Russia. Sumifru has gained high regard in the markets for the excellent quality of its products. To date, the company continues to pursue further opportunities to expand its scope and production. Sumifru is the number one player in our chosen markets in terms of both quality and volume.
1970 | Sumifru started growing bananas in the island of Mindanao, Philippines. |
1990 | As part of Sumifru’s 20th year anniversary, Gracio brand of bananas is first introduced and distributed throughout our markets. |
2004 | Sumifru pledges to expand its banana plantation operations in Mindanao by investing Php5.5billion in land and infrastructure. |
2005 | Banage brand of bananas first distributed to market. |
2006 | Acquired AJMR Port as a dedicated loading and shipping port facilities in Davao City. |
2008 |
First certified SA 8000:2001 The Social Accountability (SA) 8000 is a standard for assuring humane workplaces. |
2009 |
First certified HACCP Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) is standard for complete food safety and quality management system. First certified Global G.A.P The Global Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) is a standard that reassures consumers about how food is produced on the farm by minimizing detrimental environmental impacts of farming operations, reducing the use of chemical inputs and ensuring a responsible approach to worker health and safety as well as animal welfare. |
2010 |
Sumifru now also produces and exports papaya and pineapples.
The company releases plans to establishing a special agro-industrial zone in Davao city to augment its banana and vegetable exports. More expansion projects are also announced. |
2011 | 2011 - Sumifru (Philippines) Corporation now operates more than 14,000 hectares in three (3) different regions in Mindanao and has plans for expanding throughout Asia. Total employee count is around 18,100 comprised of management staff, supervisory and technical employees, rank and file employees, consultants and agency workers. It is in partnership with about 2,110 growers and 4,400 land owners. |
2012 | Sumifru brand of bananas, the first product brand to carry our corporate name, is first distributed to our Japan market. |
